The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said that the ongoing repairs of the transmission line of Ahoada-Yenagoa has been disrupted by vandals.

The announcement noted that about three towers were pulled down and one-third of conductors were equally stolen.

Local security personnel have been deployed to Ula Ikata in Ahoada East Local Government Area to secure the site until repairs are completed.

According to TCN, efforts to replace the stolen conductors are ongoing as the transmission line will be energized from the Ahoada end for further theft.

TCN revealed that despite the climate effect and environmental terrain, the repair surpasses 85% to be completed.

Explaining the previous attack, it noted that, “Earlier in the month, vandals had attacked transmission towers in the Okada and Ofosu communities along the Benin-Egbin and Benin-transmission lines, with a total of thirty-one towers affected.

Addressing the issue of vandalism in Nigeria power sectors, TCN seeks the public’s urgent support in combating the growing problem, which has negatively affected the expansion and stability of the national grid.

“TCN, while emphasising the urgent need to combat the growing problem of vandalism and theft of Nigeria’s power infrastructure, calls on the public to support efforts to address these crimes, which have significantly hampered the expansion and stability of the national grid.”
