A Broadcast journalist and Chairman of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Ibadan, Oyo State, Oriyomi Hamzat, has been reportedly hospitalised following a stampede at a funfair that claimed multiple lives.
The New Daily Prime earlier reported that the tragic incident occurred during a children’s Christmas party organised by Queen Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife.
According to a source who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter, Oriyomi has remained unconscious since yesterday, overwhelmed by the shock of the tragic incident.
The source further disclosed that he is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Ibadan.
Yesterday, Agidigbo 88.7 FM issued a statement distancing itself from the event.
Signed by the station’s Director of Programmes, Olayinka Abdulwahab, the statement urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation about the incident.
Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered a probe into the circumstances surrounding the multiple deaths
He disclosed that the primary organisers of the event responsible for the stampede have been taken into custody.
The governor assured that anyone found culpable, either directly or indirectly, would face the full weight of the law.
Makinde also appealed for calm, stating that security agencies were diligently working to uncover the cause of the tragic incident.
