The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has revealed that fire incidents across Nigeria in 2024 resulted in property losses estimated at N67.1 billion and claimed over 100 lives.
This was disclosed by the Controller General of the Service, Abdulganiyu Jaji, during a press conference at the FFS headquarters in Abuja.
Jaji further noted that despite the losses, the Service saved property valued at N1.94 trillion during the year.
He added that the Service saved over 30,890 lives.

Jaji further highlighted the increased risk of fire outbreaks during the harmattan season, attributing this to low humidity.
He urged fuel station operators, petrol tanker drivers, gas refilling stations, and the general public to strictly adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent further tragedies.
Outlining the Service’s plans for 2025, Jaji pledged to enhance operations through strategic initiatives, improved efficiency, and the adoption of advanced technologies, including the National Fire Detection and Alarm System (NAFDAS) and the N-Alert fire alarm app.
He also appreciated President Bola Tinubu for approving the procurement of state-of-the-art firefighting equipment and the modernization of the National Fire Academy.
Additionally, Jaji called on Nigerians to support the repeal and re-enactment of the Fire Service Act of 1963, noting that such reforms would strengthen the Service’s capacity for effective service delivery.
