The Ogun State Police Command says it has commenced an investigation into a tragic accident that claimed the life of one person and injured six others on February 4.
The accident involved a Lexus ES 350 and a Zafira 1.8 Space Wagon after both vehicles collided.
Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson of the command, said in document shared on Wednesday, the incident occurred along the Abeokuta/Ibadan highway, near Ajobo village, at about 14:30 hours.
Narrating further, an eyewitness explained that the tragic incident was a result of reckless driving by Abiodun Michael, 26, who drove the Lexus ES 350, and Popoola Kayode, 55, who drove the Zafira car.
Odutola noted in the document, “While negotiating a sharp bend, the Lexus driver reportedly failed to slow down, lost control, and veered off his lane, colliding head-on with the Zafira car on the driver’s side. Tragically, Mr. Popoola Ishola Kayode died on the spot, while six of his passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries.”

Immediately after the report was received, the DPO of Odeda Division responded swiftly, and a team arrived at the scene to secure the area, while the affected victims were taken to the hospital for medical attention.
“The injured victims were transported to General Hospital, Odeda, for urgent medical attention. Those with fractures were later transferred to FMC Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, for specialized treatment.”
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been retrieved for burial rites according to Islamic law.
According to the spokesperson, the vehicles have been towed to the police for forensic investigation, while the occupants of the Lexus ES 350 have been declared wanted after fleeing the scene.
The command calls on anyone with useful information to assist in the apprehension of the fleeing suspects.
