To help improve affordable and accessible healthcare service in the state, the Bayelsa State Government expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) and other key stakeholders in the health sector.

To back this, the Deputy Governor, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, revealed its approval for the recruitment of the medical laboratory scientists and doctors in the civil service recruitment exercise which is ongoing.

This revelation was made known on Wednesday during a courtesy visit led by the Bayelsa branch of AMLSN to Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo’s office in Yenagoa.

“We are ready to collaborate with you to make health services more affordable and accessible to all Bayelsa people,” the deputy governor said.

Ewhrudjakpo highlighted the importance of cooperation among health workers for quality results and noted that every sector is superior to others.

Expressing belief over the employment process, he assured that competent and certified personnel, including other health medical practitioners, would be employed.

“We are making progress in the health sector in Bayelsa, but we also admit that there is still much room for improvement.

He said, “As you are aware, applicants are applying to the state civil service, and some employment slots have been approved for medical doctors and laboratory scientists to be employed.

“We need competent and highly qualified personnel to be employed in the service to provide quality services.

He added, “Every health worker has a role in health promotion. No profession in the health sector is superior to another.

The State Chairman of AMLSN, Eunice Ayamaer-Lelei, underscored the importance of providing modern laboratory equipment and employing more qualified laboratory scientists.

She stressed the pivotal role played by laboratory scientists in healthcare delivery and urged the state government to implement an approved call duty allowance for members of AMLSN.
