About twelve persons have reportedly lost their lives in the Niger State road accident that occurred on Saturday morning.

The tragic accident that claimed the lives of four women and eight men occurred along the Lapai-Agaie road of the state.

According to the Daily Trust report, out of the four women who lost their lives, three were said to be siblings.

The accident was a result of a frontal collision between the Wemer passenger bus, carrying 15 passengers, and a trailer at Nami village.

However, it was gathered that two women and the Wemer driver sustained severe injuries and were receiving treatment at the Lapai General Hospital.

In an interview session with Mohammed Baba, the driver, he narrated that after he had left the Gwari Market Park in Minna, the state capital, heading to Katcha, the headquarters of Katcha Local Government Area (LGA), the trailer driver tried to overtake them.

Speaking further from his hospital bed, he said immediately he tried to manoeuvre the situation; his bus lost control, leading to the accident.

“And immediately, the trailer drivers left the scene. We didn’t see them again,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kumar Tsukwam, revealed that his men were at the scene of the incident to obtain information about the tragic accident.
