Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has sparked controversy by calling his colleague Zlatan Ibile an “up-and-coming artist.”

In a recent interview on Echo Room, Portable questioned Zlatan’s popularity, especially among wealthy individuals. He argued that Zlatan’s music does not appeal to the upper class, which he believes limits his influence.

Car dealer dismisses Zlatan

According to Portable, a car dealer once advised him not to engage in any feud with Zlatan. The dealer reportedly dismissed Zlatan as insignificant, claiming he was only using Portable’s name to gain attention.

“There was a man I bought a car from. I wanted to upgrade my car for my birthday, so I went to one of my dealers. He told me I shouldn’t have responded to Zlatan. He said Zlatan was just trying to use my name for clout,” Portable said during the interview.

The singer went on to say that the dealer had never heard Zlatan’s music before. “He said he only just started hearing his name. He didn’t even know any of his songs,” Portable added.

Portable criticizes Zlatan’s music

Portable then criticized Zlatan’s music style, arguing that many wealthy people do not recognize his songs or lyrics. He questioned whether Zlatan’s music could even be considered real music.

“A lot of rich people don’t know these artists’ lyrics. What are they even singing? Is that music? You can’t even do call and response. Are you joking?” he said.

Mixed reactions from fans

Portable’s remarks have since stirred reactions among fans and music lovers. While some agree with his opinion, others see it as an attempt to discredit Zlatan.

Zlatan Ibile, whose real name is Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, rose to fame with his hit song “Zanku” and has since established himself in the Nigerian music industry. He is known for his energetic performances and signature dance style.

Zlatan yet to respond

Despite Portable’s claims, Zlatan remains a recognized name in Afrobeats and street pop. He has collaborated with top artists in the industry, including Davido, Burna Boy, and Naira Marley.

As of now, Zlatan has not publicly responded to Portable’s comments. However, fans are eager to see if he will address the claims or simply ignore them.

Portable’s history of controversy

This is not the first time Portable has made bold statements about fellow artists. Known for his outspoken nature, he has previously clashed with other musicians and industry figures. His unpredictable personality keeps him in the headlines, and this latest statement only adds to his growing list of controversial moments.

The music industry drama continues

Whether Portable’s opinion holds any weight or not, one thing is certain: the Nigerian music industry is never short of drama.
