These are top Netflix series of 2024 that you must not be caught slacking on.

Have you not been keeping up with movies because of work? Listen, you’re not the only one in that shoes. I carried so much enthusiasm to watch movies at the start of the year but soon I caught up in my hustle.

Moreover, I know you don’t want to cross to 2025 with a backlog with movies from 2024 to watch. As 2024 is wrapping up, it’s time to wrap up 2024 watch list.I will be suggesting the list of top Netflix movies you should watch so that you won’t have to go through the hassle of picking the ones to watch.

  • Fool Me Once

Netflix’s  kickstarter for this year with a Harlen Corben’s adaptation, it was a sign that this year was going to birth good movies. With this title, I can hear Billie Ellish’s lyrics , fool me once, fool me twice resonating in my ears.

Released on January 1, Fool Me Once was a mystery thriller with a modernistic touch of whodunnit. It also explored a unique touch of plot twist that sustains the audience’s attention. It is a Harlen Corben’s special that was adapted by Netflix.

  • One Day

Spoiler alert! You might need some paper towels for this. Giving you this spoiler alert seems unfair because the forerunners in watching this show had no watching of such. One Day was supposed to be that good romantic comedy but along the line they infused the Romeo and Juliet’s tragic feel into the movie.

One Day is a very good series that keeps you boxed in with slow and steady unwrapping of events. But it exposes us to the uncertainty of events, maybe we don’t have forever with our partner. 

If you’re an enthusiast of love and you’ve not watched this show then you’re wrong. This is the second adaptation of the David’s Nicholls’ book of the same title.

  • The Gentlemen

This series is laced with so much wisdom talks and it was like the Peaky Blinders of 2024. It is an action comedy that you want to watch in a stretch because of the suspense at the end of each episode. In such a swoon, the movie’s plot moved from the regular pace of events to a chaotic one.

The Gentlemen is a Guy Ritchie’s movie and we all know any movie Guy Ritchie touches is gold. Plans for a second season are in motion as Guy already has “ideas for a second installment”.

The captivating style of filmography heightens your suspense and when you think you didn’t get the gist of a seemingly complicated scene, there is a flashback waiting for you.

The characterisation of the movie is one major contributing factor to the success of the movie. The movie actors carried the aura of the characters they acted in. This is one of the major reasons why this version of The Gentlemen was a success compared to its forerunner.

• 3 Body Problem 

Where are the science nerds at?3 Body Problem explored a scientific concept the 3 Body Problem with a futuristic plot setting. However, you don’t have to be a science nerd or enthusiast before you understand the movie. 

The series have engaging sub plots that will interest you even if you find the major plot of the movie too complicated. 3 Body Problem is an adaptation of Cixin Liu’s sci-fi book of the same title. The movie is inspired by science conundrum in astronomy.

  • Supacell

Cheers to this movie for uplifting the black culture! Supacell was a buzz on the internet because of its rich reference to black folks. The plot story surrounds the usual superhero cliché but its reference to Black culture and other concepts raised in the movie made it the talk of the town.

The key takeaway from the movie for some folks was the exciting South London accent slangs.

  • Baby Reindeer

Baby Reindeer was really a sensation when it was released most importantly because it was based on a real life experience. It was the story of the main actor of the movie, Richard Gadd. It explores sensitive themes like rape, stalking, inferiority complex and as well struggles of an upcoming creatives.

Even though Netflix got sued by the real-life Martha, the character who stalked Donny in the movie , the series still has its stance on the platform. The British black-comedy thriller series even won big at the last concluded Emmys Awards.

  • Dead Boy Detectives 

Dead Boy Detectives is our supernatural, mystique, thrilling for 2024. This series is a Sandman spinoff considering the appearance of the character, Death from Sandman. Dead Boy Detectives was chilling but the infusion of comedy toned it down a bit.

Unfortunately, the show isn’t renewed for a second season but it was a good solace for Sandman fans to watch before the release of its second season by next year.

  • Kaos

Kaos is another of Netflix’s good shows that got canceled after a season. Kaos is a Greek mythological drama that tells the story of Zeus, the king of gods from a comedic and humanistic perspective. From the movie, Zeus’ is not projected from his superiority and power but from his insecurities and shortcomings.

It explores the supernatural concept of supremacy of fate and the inevitable end of prophecies.

  • Nobody Wants This

The award of the best romantic comedy of the year goes to Nobody Wants This. Till now, a lot of people are not over this movie because of its intentionality of emphasizing the importance of communication in a romantic relationship.

The Guardian describes it as “the funniest, sweetest, most scabrous, most romantic, most real thing we’ve seen since – well, since Colin from Accounts”. Before watching this movie, if you didn’t believe in love, you’ll end up believing in love. This movie has the capability of making you believe in love. It’s that good!

  • Monsters: Eric and Lyle Mendez story 

Monsters is based on a true life crime of the Menendez brothers. Ever since the series was released, different opinions and case reviews have been sprouting up constituting a kind of good PR for the Menendez brothers.

It explains the backstory behind why the Menendez brothers killed their parents gruesomely in the year.

It follows the events surrounding the murders, including the brothers’ claims of physical, emotional and sexual abuse.But the show also makes efforts to show things from the parents’ point of view, something its creators have said was based on extensive research.
