Late Nigerian singer Mohbad’s childhood friend, Ibrahim Owodunni, widely known as Primeboy, has issued a legal threat against the deceased singer’s mother, Abosede Adeyemo-Aloba, accusing her of defamation.
The controversy follows remarks she made during a recent interview, where she implicated Primeboy in events surrounding her son’s untimely death.
According to Daily Post News, Primeboy’s lawyer, Akinpelu Ogunbona, fired a statement addressing the allegations made by Mohbad’s mother.
The statement claims that in her interview, Adeyemo-Aloba accused Primeboy of having frequent arguments with Mohbad before his death.
She further claimed that Primeboy often expressed displeasure over what she described as the singer’s neglect of him after his rise to stardom.
The statement also highlighted her allegation that Primeboy was advised to flee following Mohbad’s death to avoid suspicion.
These remarks, according to Primeboy’s legal counsel, have caused substantial damage to his reputation.
The statement read: “Your actions are deliberate and intended to injure and tarnish the integrity of our client, who is an emerging talent in the music industry. Your allegations have significantly impacted the affection and support that our client enjoys from his fans and supporters worldwide.”
Primeboy’s legal team has demanded an immediate retraction of Adeyemo-Aloba’s statements.
In a letter shared via Primeboy’s Instagram account, he has given Mohbad’s mother a seven-day window to publicly retract her allegations.
The statement emphasized that failure to do so would result in legal action aimed at protecting Primeboy’s reputation and seeking damages for the harm allegedly caused by her statements.
This legal threat adds another layer to the ongoing controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death.
The singer, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, passed away under mysterious circumstances on September 12, 2023.
The following day, he was buried, but questions surrounding the circumstances of his death led to further investigations. On September 21, 2023, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) exhumed Mohbad’s body for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The allegations made by Mohbad’s mother have sparked widespread reactions, particularly among fans of the late singer and those of Primeboy.
Many have taken to social media to express their opinions, with some defending Primeboy’s innocence while others speculate about the nature of his relationship with Mohbad before his passing.
Primeboy, known for his close ties to the late singer, has remained a prominent figure in the discussions surrounding Mohbad’s death.
He has been vocal about his grief and has expressed his frustration at the accusations leveled against him.
In earlier statements, he insisted on his innocence, stating that he had no involvement in the singer’s death and had only ever acted as a supportive friend.
The legal notice serves as an attempt by Primeboy to clear his name and to push back against what he perceives as damaging falsehoods.
His legal team underscored the impact that such allegations could have on his budding music career, stating that they not only damage his personal reputation but also threaten his professional prospects.
This unfolding drama reflects the tensions that often arise in the aftermath of a public figure’s tragic and controversial death. As the investigation into Mohbad’s death continues, the accusations, counterclaims, and legal threats between his family and associates reveal the complex and emotionally charged nature of the situation.
Whether Mohbad’s mother will comply with the demand to retract her statements or whether this case will proceed to court remains to be seen.
