Rapper and lawyer Falz criticises President Tinubu’s decision to declare a State of Emergency in Rivers State, questioning its legality and necessity.
The announcement has sparked debates across the country.
Tinubu suspends governor, lawmakers
On Tuesday, President Tinubu suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the State House of Assembly. He then appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as the temporary head of the state for six months.
The government claims this move is necessary due to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers.
Falz questions Tinubu’s authority
Falz reacted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, saying the President has no legal right to remove an elected governor. He stressed that a governor can only be removed through impeachment.
“Rivers State, there is absolutely no law that allows a president to SUSPEND a governor,” he wrote. “A governor is elected into office and may only be removed by impeachment.”
He also questioned whether the situation in Rivers State was serious enough to justify a State of Emergency. “Is Rivers State at war? Is there an ‘actual breakdown of public order?’ Is there a threat to the existence of the federation?” he asked.

Mixed reactions from Nigerians
Falz’s statement has drawn mixed reactions online. Some people support him, saying the President’s action is illegal. Others argue that the suspension was necessary to restore order.
The situation in Rivers State remains uncertain. Many Nigerians are waiting to see if the courts or lawmakers will challenge Tinubu’s decision.
For now, the crisis continues, and the future of the state’s leadership is unclear.
