Popular Nigerian actress Regina Chukwu has bravely shared details of a terrifying robbery ordeal she went through years ago while on a movie set.
In a heartfelt video shared on her YouTube channel, she described the incident as one of the most painful moments of her career. Her biggest regret, she says, was agreeing to stay at a hotel because of veteran actor Akin Lewis’ request.
Late-night filming turns risky
Chukwu, known for her roles in Yoruba movies, spoke candidly about the night that turned her world upside down. The actress explained that the incident happened about five years ago while filming a movie late into the night.
The shoot wrapped around 1:00 a.m., and she had planned to return home. However, the producer and actor Akin Lewis urged her to stay and complete a few more scenes. They explained that Lewis had to travel to Oyo State early the next day, so time was tight.
An uncomfortable hotel stay
“I was on a set about five years ago,” Chukwu said in the video. “We finished shooting at around 1:00 a.m., and I was told to lodge at a nearby hotel on Ayilara Street. I was only meant to be there for the day, but they insisted I should sleep over.”
When they arrived at the hotel, Chukwu immediately felt uneasy. She noticed that the hotel was filled with prostitutes and told the crew she didn’t feel safe staying there.

Respect that led to regret
Despite her concerns, Akin Lewis pleaded with her to stay. Chukwu admitted that she didn’t want to seem disrespectful, especially given his seniority and reputation in the industry. Out of respect, she reluctantly agreed to stay the night.
“That decision is something I regret deeply,” she said. “I was trying to be respectful, but it ended badly.”
The robbery begins
Soon after she entered the hotel room and began changing for bed, the unimaginable happened. Armed robbers forced their way into her room. They broke down the door and dragged her out.
“They took me to another location and forced me to withdraw every kobo in my account using my ATM card,” she recalled.
A lesson learned the hard way
Chukwu didn’t go into more details about where she was taken or how she escaped. However, it was clear the experience left her deeply shaken. She described it as one of the worst moments of her life and a lesson she would never forget.
“If something doesn’t feel right, I’ve learned to walk away,” she said. “That night taught me never to ignore my inner voice.”
Support from fans and viewers
Since sharing her story, fans have flooded the comment section of her YouTube video with support. Many praised her bravery for speaking out and thanked her for warning others about the dangers that can come with acting—especially for women working late at unfamiliar locations.
Moving forward with strength
Despite the trauma, Regina Chukwu has persevered and continued to move forward in her career. She remains one of the most recognised faces in Yoruba Nollywood and continues to inspire many with her strength and honesty.
Her message is clear: no job is worth your safety, and no amount of respect should silence your instincts.
