Mr Latin commends President Tinubu on strategic ministry merger

In a recent statement, Bolaji Amusan, widely known as Mr Latin, a distinguished figure in the Nollywood film industry, has expressed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to consolidate the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy.

This strategic move, according to Mr. Latin, will yield significant benefits, particularly in terms of reducing the cost of governance in Nigeria.

As the National President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Mr. Latin emphasized the deep interrelation between the fields of tourism, arts, culture, and entertainment.

The Nation Online in its report, stated that “These sectors are intricately linked, and it stands to reason that they should not be treated in isolation,” he remarked, highlighting the logical basis for the merger.

At 58 years old, Mr. Latin has been a prominent advocate for the advancement of Nigeria’s cultural industries.

He underscored that actors and filmmakers frequently rely on the resources provided by the tourism sector.

“As actors, we often utilize hotels, visit various tourism sites across the nation, and engage with local communities,” he elaborated.

“In essence, we are actively operating within the tourism space, and this alignment is vital for both our industry and the country’s economy.”

Furthermore, he acknowledged that the synergy created by integrating these ministries could pave the way for enhanced collaboration and innovation within the creative economy.

“By merging these significant sectors, we can foster a more cohesive approach that leverages the strengths and resources of each area,” he concluded.

He expressed optimism that this initiative would not only benefit the creative professionals but also enhance Nigeria’s global cultural footprint.

In addition to praising the merger, Mr. Latin also commended President Tinubu for the transformation of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development into the Ministry of Regional Development.

This change, he noted, aims to streamline oversight of the various Regional Development Commissions.

“This is a crucial step that reflects the administration’s commitment to national development,” he stated.

Through this reorganization, Mr. Latin believes that the government can more effectively address regional disparities and encourage balanced growth across the country.

“A focused approach on regional development will significantly improve the lives of citizens in those areas, and we must applaud the president for this forward-thinking initiative,” he remarked.

As a seasoned filmmaker and actor, Mr. Latin has witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by the creative industry in Nigeria.

He harbours hopes that with the new ministry structure, increased funding and resources will flow into both the arts and tourism sectors.

“Ultimately, a thriving arts and culture scene will enhance tourism by attracting both local and international visitors, contributing to the nation’s economy,” he asserted.

However, Bolaji Amusan, known affectionately as Mr Latin, stands as a pillar of support for President Tinubu’s initiatives that seek to harmonize Nigeria’s diverse cultural sectors.

His insights reflect a genuine concern for the growth of the creative industries and their potential to catalyze broader economic development.

As this new chapter unfolds under the Tinubu administration, stakeholders in the arts, culture, and tourism sectors remain hopeful for a collaborative and prosperous future.

As always, the relationship between government policy and the arts remains a complex yet vital aspect of national identity and economic resilience, warranting continuous dialogue and engagement from industry leaders like Mr. Latin.
