The successful gospel artiste, Mercy Chinwo, was spotlighted on CNN’s African Voice Changemakers where her story of impact, faith and music was reviewed. She came into fame when she won the second season on Nigerian Idol.

Mercy is a very lively and jovial person and has even been featured in some skits. The gospel artist is also an unapologetic philanthropist. She stretches her hands of love through her Mercy is Blessed foundation.
Mercy Chinwo, the celebrated winner of Nigerian Idol season two, sat down with the CNN anchor to discuss her inspiring journey.
Even before her 2012 victory, Chinwo’s heart was set on gospel music. “My desire has always been to connect with people beyond the stage, to truly engage with my fans.”
She recalls a time when her passion was misunderstood: “In my community, many dismissed my singing as mere ‘noise.’ Little did they know that the ‘noisemaker’ would become a powerful voice.
“The release of ‘Testimony’ in 2015 marked the beginning of Chinwo’s significant presence in gospel music, followed by ‘Igwe’ in 2016.
She attributes her clear direction to her formative years: “Coming from a humble background, my involvement in the children’s choir, where I eventually became leader, was instrumental.”
Her impactful artistry has been recognized with awards such as Best Gospel Artist at the 2018 Climax Awards and Gospel Artist of the Year at the 2020 AFRIMMA.

For Chinwo, her music is a source of personal blessing that she feels compelled to share: “When I create music, I am deeply blessed, and I eagerly anticipate sharing that blessing with others.
“In 2023, Chinwo and her husband, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa, extended their impact by establishing the Mercy is Blessed Foundation, dedicated to supporting the less privileged in Nigeria.
Reflecting on the mark she hopes to leave, she shared with CNN, “I aspire to be remembered as a resilient woman who never gave up on her dreams. I want my life to be a testament that inspires future generations to be grateful for my wholehearted service to Jesus Christ.”
