Comedian and activist Mr Macaroni vows never to acknowledge Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu again, reaffirming his stance against political pressure.
He made this bold statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, following criticism for refusing to greet the governor in public.
Past encounters with Sanwo-Olu
Mr Macaroni has a history of avoiding Governor Sanwo-Olu at public events. On previous occasions, cameras have captured him steering clear of the governor. At one such event, he was pressured into greeting Sanwo-Olu against his will. However, the comedian has now made it clear that he will not allow that to happen again.
A firm stand on X
Taking to social media, Mr Macaroni expressed his frustration with those criticizing him for his stance. He insisted that his refusal to greet the governor is a personal choice and that no amount of public pressure will change his mind.
“This is the last time I will address this matter. It is not worth my peace of mind,” he wrote.
“Since you people won’t stop attacking me because I didn’t greet Governor Sanwo-Olu, next time I see him, I still won’t greet him. And this time, even if he calls me, I won’t answer. You people will cry today, tomorrow, and forever!”
The possible reason for his grudge
Mr Macaroni’s strained relationship with Governor Sanwo-Olu likely stems from his experience during the 2021 #EndSARS protests. The comedian was among those arrested at the Lekki Toll Gate while protesting against police brutality. His arrest and alleged mistreatment by security forces left a lasting impact on him. Since then, he has remained a vocal critic of the Lagos State government, often using his platform to speak out against perceived injustices.
Mixed reactions from the public
His recent comments have sparked widespread debate online. Supporters have praised him for standing his ground and refusing to bow to political pressure. They see his actions as a symbol of resistance against oppression. However, critics argue that his stance is unnecessary and disrespectful, insisting that greeting the governor is simply a matter of courtesy.
Despite the controversy, Mr Macaroni remains firm in his decision. He has built a reputation for speaking truth to power, and his latest declaration reinforces his commitment to his principles. For now, it seems unlikely that any reconciliation between him and Governor Sanwo-Olu will happen soon.
