The House of Representatives has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to block access to all pornographic websites nationwide.
Lawmakers argue that the ban is necessary to protect moral values and prevent minors from accessing explicit content.
However, the decision has sparked controversy, with many questioning the government’s priorities. Some believe more pressing issues, such as economic hardship, security concerns, and unemployment, deserve urgent attention.
IGoSave speaks out against the ban
Nigerian stand-up comedian IGoSave has openly criticized the directive. He believes the ban will negatively impact many citizens and questions whether the government should dictate what people can or cannot watch.
Taking to Instagram, he wrote in Pidgin English:
“This porn site ban go affect many Nigerians o!”
He then asked his followers if they should organize a protest against the restriction, stating,
“Should we help dem protest? Cos they are true Nigerians too.”
His statement quickly gained attention, with many Nigerians reacting both in support and opposition.
Rapper Blaqbonez joins the debate
Popular rapper Blaqbonez also weighed in on the issue. He criticized the ban, suggesting that it reflected misplaced priorities.
He argued that adult films help some Nigerians cope with stress and difficult times. Like IGoSave, he questioned why the government was focusing on internet censorship instead of addressing more critical national problems.

Mixed reactions from Nigerians
The ban has triggered widespread debate on social media. Some Nigerians support the restriction, arguing that pornography promotes addiction, affects mental health, and exposes minors to inappropriate content.
Others, however, believe the government should not interfere in people’s personal choices. Many critics see the move as an attempt to control citizens rather than solve urgent national issues.
Social media has been flooded with memes, jokes, and serious discussions about censorship, freedom, and personal liberty. The topic remains a trending issue, with both celebrities and ordinary Nigerians sharing their opinions.
What’s next?
As the debate continues, the Nigerian Communications Commission has yet to provide details on how or when the ban will be enforced. Many Nigerians are waiting to see if the government will reconsider its decision or move forward despite public opposition.
For now, the controversy rages on, highlighting the ongoing struggle between government policies and personal freedoms in Nigeria.
