Afrobeat sensation Ayra Starr has exceeded two billion Spotify streams.

The Nigerian-Beninese star has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most successful musical exports since her self-titled debut EP was released in 2019.

The Grammy-nominated singer recently set a new career milestone by surpassing 2 billion Spotify streams. According to Spotify statistics aggregator Kworb, the singer has received little over 2 billion streams as of October 10, 2024.

This accomplishment comes months after she released her second album, ‘The Year I Turned 21,’ which has already received over 500 million Spotify streams.

The award-winning vocalist has two songs with over 400 million streams. Rvssian’s ‘Santa’, on which she had a cameo appearance, has collected over 455 million Spotify listens, while her smash tune ‘Rush’ has accumulated over over 409 million Spotify.

Libianca’s song ‘People,’ in which she appears alongside Omah Lay, has 106 million plays, while her popular single ‘Bloody Samaritan’ has 82 million streams.

Ayra Starr joins Wizkid, Burna Boy, Rema, CKay, Tems, and Davido among Nigerian musicians with more than 2 billion Spotify streams in total.

2024 has been a major success for the celebrity, who just received four nominations for the 2024 MTV EMAs. The 22-year-old singer will compete in four categories: Best New Artist, Best African Act, Best Afrobeats Act, and Best Push.

The singer has also hinted at a deluxe version for her sophomore album, which has so far achieved great commercial success.

Starr was discovered on social media. Don Jazzy, CEO of Mavin Records, wrote her a direct message on Instagram after she posted a video of herself singing one of her original songs, inviting her to the Mavin studio to record in 2020.

According to Teen Vogue, Starr was signed to Mavin Records three days later.
