Actress Dayo Amusa opens up on miscarriages, breakups, failed IVFs

Nollywood star Dayo Amusa opened up about her journey to motherhood in a heartfelt Instagram post on New Year’s Eve.

She shared her struggles, triumphs, and the lessons she learned on her path to becoming a mother.

Challenges of motherhood dreams

Amusa revealed the trials she faced while trying to conceive. These included three miscarriages and a 2015 diagnosis of uterine myomatosis, a condition that almost dashed her hopes of motherhood. Doctors even recommended removing her womb, but she refused to give up.

“For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a wife and a mother,” she wrote.

Fighting against the odds

Determined to fight for her dream, Amusa pursued alternative treatments instead of agreeing to the doctors’ recommendation. With her family’s support, she travelled to the United Kingdom, where she underwent surgery on February 14, 2015, to remove the tumours.

However, her journey didn’t end there. In 2016, Amusa tried to conceive again, only to discover one of her fallopian tubes was damaged. This revelation made natural conception nearly impossible, adding strain to her relationship at the time.

Heartbreak and failed attempts

The actress also faced heartbreak when her partner was unfaithful, leading to the end of their relationship. “He was involved with another woman, which produced a baby boy,” she disclosed.

In 2019, Amusa attempted IVF, but the process was unsuccessful. Her then-partner’s impatience added to her struggles. “He insisted on having a child that year,” she said. When she suggested waiting or considering alternatives, he fathered a child with another woman.

Emotional toll of infertility

The actress shared how the stigma surrounding infertility caused her to withdraw from family, friends, and even her career. She battled depression in silence, hiding her pain behind a smile.

“There’s a misconception that if someone is smiling, they’re okay,” she said. “But the reality is, it’s hard to be okay when you’re faced with the challenges of infertility.”

Despite the mental and emotional toll, Amusa held onto her faith, believing that her prayers would eventually be answered.

New beginning abroad

In 2021, following her mother’s advice, Amusa relocated to either the United States or the United Kingdom for a fresh start. The change of environment gave her a renewed sense of purpose and hope.

A pivotal prayer in 2023

In December 2023, during a family Christmas gathering, Amusa experienced a moment that would change everything. Watching her siblings and cousins celebrate, she silently prayed for her miracle.

“I prayed to God not to celebrate another year alone,” she recalled.

Miracle fulfilled in 2024

In November 2024, Amusa welcomed her son, Oluwafirewamiri Abdulrasheed. Reflecting on her journey, she expressed gratitude for the answered prayers. “God finally rewrote my story. I thank Him for the privilege of being called Mummy Olufire,” she wrote.

Encouragement for others facing challenges

Amusa concluded her post with a message of hope for others dealing with similar struggles. She encouraged them to remain hopeful and assured them that their pain and feelings were valid. “Your pain is real, but so is hope,” she said.

Addressing criticism with confidence

Amusa also addressed critics questioning the paternity of her child during a TikTok live session in November. She firmly stated, “I don’t have to disclose my child’s father to anyone.”

Story of resilience and faith

Amusa’s testimony is a powerful reminder of resilience and faith. Her journey to motherhood inspires many, proving that perseverance and hope can lead to miracles.
