The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, announced on Wednesday that the state government is committed to enhancing access to quality education under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The state has successfully constructed and rehabilitated over 1,474 classrooms, with an additional 332 ongoing projects.

In addition, the state has supplied over 8,800 two-seater desks and benches for public primary schools and nearly 4,000 desks for junior secondary schools.

The government has also provided 2,395 pieces of furniture for teachers in both primary and junior secondary schools.

To address staffing shortages, Ogun State recruited 3,000 teachers and abolished fees in primary and secondary schools, significantly boosting student enrolment.

In a push to improve technical education, all eight government-owned technical colleges are being rehabilitated to become world-class vocational training centers.

Arigbabu highlighted the state’s commitment to tertiary education by ensuring the regular payment of subventions to state-owned institutions and approving a N200 million annual intervention fund for infrastructure.

Additionally, smart classrooms are being built in secondary schools across all 20 local government areas, with 72 schools benefiting from the first phase of the project.

The government also plans to build 12 mega classrooms to accommodate up to 900 students, aiming to decongest classrooms and enhance the learning environment.
