Foremost Constitutional lawyer, Professor Yusuf Ali, has asked the National Assembly to amend Section 136 of the Electoral Act that empowers courts or tribunals to declare anybody as the winner of any election petition in the country. According to him, it is an aberration that five or ten million votes of the electorate should be surrendered at the mercy of three people to overturn, saying that it is undemocratic. A non-commissioned officer in the Nigerian Army, Lance Corporal Femi Akinleye, has reportedly killed his wife and later shot himself dead over the allegation that his wife was unfaithful to him. While the federal government making efforts to resolve the face-off between Dangote Refinery and oil workers in NUPENG and PENGASSAN, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, is already mobilizing for a nationwide strike over alleged “deliberate anti-worker crusade” by the management of the refinery. The directive to start mobilizing was contained in an internal memo signed by NLC President, Joe Ajaero, on Monday.
