The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially confirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not participate in the Osun State governorship election slated for 8 August 2026, due to the party’s failure to successfully upload candidate nomination details.

Sources close to the PDP have attributed the failure to submit a valid candidate to prolonged internal leadership wrangles and disputes over the conduct of the party’s primary election, which prevented the timely nomination of a candidate in line with INEC guidelines.
The development has triggered varied reactions. Supporters of the ruling Accord Party view it as a boost for Governor Adeleke’s re-election prospects, while opposition figures, particularly from the APC, see an opening to challenge the incumbent more effectively in what is now a crowded but PDP-free field.
INEC has reiterated the importance of strict adherence to nomination deadlines and procedures, urging all stakeholders to prepare for a transparent and credible poll on 8 August 2026.
