The National Examinations Council (NECO) has published the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with a strong performance recorded across several subjects.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in Minna, Niger State, by Ibrahim Wushishi, NECO’s registrar, who disclosed that candidates were examined in 16 subjects.
According to Wushishi, a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 51,823 males (53.43 percent) and 45,156 females (46.56 percent). Out of this number, 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the exams — 50,785 males (53.36 percent) and 44,375 females (46.63 percent).
He revealed that 73,167 candidates earned credit passes and above, representing 78.32 percent of the 93,425 candidates whose results were processed.
In mathematics, Wushishi said 93,330 candidates took the subject, out of which 85,256 candidates — or 91.35 percent — achieved credit passes and above.
The registrar further noted that 68,166 candidates, accounting for 71.63 percent, obtained at least five credits including English language and mathematics. Meanwhile, 82,082 candidates, representing 86.26 percent, secured five credits and above regardless of the two compulsory subjects.
On examination malpractice, Wushishi disclosed that 9,016 candidates were sanctioned, marking an increase of 2,856 cases compared to 2024. He also announced that five supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory, Kano, Adamawa and Ondo states were blacklisted for allegedly aiding malpractice.
In addition, four examination centres in Niger, Yobe and Kano states have been recommended for de-recognition due to their “involvement in mass malpractice”.
Wushishi described the release of the results as “another milestone” in NECO’s commitment to delivering credible and reliable assessments for Nigerian students. He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued backing of the education sector.
The registrar added that NECO is currently owed less than N2 billion by the 36 states of the federation.
The 2025 SSCE was conducted between November 26 and December 13, 2025, while marking took place from January 5 to January 21, 2026.
