Controversial singer, Portable, was arraigned on Monday at the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, on nine-count charges involving assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest.
He was arraigned following a viral video on Sunday showing him in police custody, over an alleged attack on his estranged partner Ashabi Simple and other police officers, including some other persons at the singer’s bar located in Iyana Ilogbo area of the state on New Year’s Day.
Portable was also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300, with dealer number Wally Dex Auto, valued at N12 million and belonging to Ileyemi Damilola, one of those attacked.
Other victims in the case include Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
Ashabi Simple was absent from the court, but two of her siblings testified as witnesses to the alleged assault. The singer’s estranged wife had earlier filed a complaint.
However, the police further accused Portable of obstructing and assaulting Ogungbe Olayemi, a female police inspector, in the process of carrying out her official assignment.
The presiding judge denied Portable bail, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court.
The judge insisted on seeing the officer before ruling on the bail application. Consequently, Portable was remanded in custody until a fresh bail consideration on January 19.
The Ogun command recently ordered an investigation into a now-viral video depicting the singer being assaulted in custody.
This is not the first time Portable has been remanded in detention. In May 2024, a magistrate’s court in Ifo LGA of Ogun convicted and sentenced him to three months in prison for assault.
The charges stemmed from a 2022 incident where the ‘Zazoo Zeh’ hitmaker allegedly attacked Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi in the Okeosa area of Ilogbo, within the Ifo district.
Portable was also accused of stealing musical equipment, including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, a studio interface connection cable, and an AKG P420 condenser microphone.
