The Rivers State Police Command has invited a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Tammy Danagogo, for questioning over an alleged plot to assassinate the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Danagogo’s invitation is reportedly linked to a leaked phone conversation between him and a suspect already in police custody. Although the police invitation letter sighted by DAILY POST did not state the specific reason for the summons, a security source familiar with the matter said it was connected to an alleged discussion bordering on a planned assassination.
According to the anonymous source, the conversation allegedly involved Danagogo and a Port Harcourt–based pastor, identified as Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, who has since been arrested by the police.
“Danagogo and Pastor Tombari were talking about a plot to invite Israelis to come and kill the Minister,” the source claimed. “The leaked phone conversation is already with the police, and that is why he has been invited for questioning.”
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Rivers State Police Command were ongoing as of press time. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Grace Iringo Koko, said she would verify the report and respond.
“Let me confirm, and I will get back to you,” she said.
The development follows the earlier arrest of Pastor Tombari Joseph Gbeneol by security operatives over an alleged plan to assassinate Wike, who is the immediate past governor of Rivers State and a key political figure in the state.
According to security sources, Gbeneol was arrested after authorities intercepted and monitored a phone call between him and Danagogo. During the conversation, the two men were allegedly heard discussing a plan to recruit Israeli nationals to assassinate the FCT minister.
The conversation reportedly went further, with the suspects allegedly discussing the need to secure financial backing for the operation. The call was said to have ended with a proposal to seek funding from Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to bankroll the alleged plot.
Neither Danagogo nor representatives of Governor Fubara have publicly reacted to the allegations as of the time of filing this report. The police have also not disclosed whether formal charges will be brought against any additional suspects, stating only that investigations are ongoing.
The Rivers State Police Command is expected to issue an official statement once preliminary questioning and further investigations are concluded.
