The South East Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have adopted President Bola Tinubu as their consensus candidate for the 2027 general election.
The motion was moved by the Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, during a high-level consultative meeting held at the Hotel Presidential, Enugu, on Sunday.
Uzodimma declared that the decision was not based on rhetoric but on the “tangible growth and stability” Nigeria has witnessed under the #RenewedHope administration.

The endorsement was driven by the push to accelerate the completion of major arterial roads and bridge projects across the five South East states.
Supporters also pointed to improving economic resilience, noting that growth in the national economy had stimulated expansion in local commerce and industrial sectors.
Additionally, the move aimed to strengthen national integration by positioning the South East at the centre of the Nigerian federation’s decision-making process.
“This confidence is grounded in measurable outcomes that continue to strengthen national resilience and investor trust,” Uzodimma stated.
“The South East has demonstrated unity of purpose and a commitment to delivering victory for Mr President at the polls.”
The governor, who serves as the Renewed Hope Ambassador and Director-General for Party Outreach, emphasised that the region’s choice transcends traditional partisan lines.
He argued that the South East can no longer afford to play “sideline politics.”
Instead, by adopting Tinubu as a consensus candidate, the region sought to guarantee continuity by ensuring that ongoing federal projects were not abandoned.
It also aimed to increase its political capital by shifting from a predictable voting bloc to a more influential force at the centre.
Additionally, the region hoped to drive greater regional investment by leveraging federal partnerships to strengthen local power projects and boost agricultural development.
The meeting, attended by governors, federal and state legislators, party elders, and cabinet members, served as a “clear statement of fact” regarding the region’s political direction.
“On this mandate, we are aligned, focused, and we will deliver,” Uzodimma said.
The endorsement in Enugu follows similar moves in other geopolitical zones, effectively positioning Tinubu as the undisputed frontrunner within the APC nearly two years before the next presidential ballot.
