The All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesman in Rivers State, Darlington Nwuju, has stated that his party has inherited longstanding challenges from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid the escalating political crisis.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today yesterday, Nwuju described the ongoing rivalry between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike as a PDP-originated issue now spilling into the APC.

“These are issues that were occurring within the Peoples Democratic Party. So it is now as if we have inherited these challenges,” he said.
The feud centres on control of Rivers’ political structure and resources. On the same day, the State House of Assembly, dominated by Wike loyalists, initiated fresh impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, over allegations of gross misconduct, including failure to present the 2026 budget.
Nwuju downplayed the crisis as a “political disagreement” with legal and constitutional implications, assuring resolution through interventions by party leaders and President Bola Tinubu.
“I want to assure you that it will be handled in the way and manner that Nigerians will be happy… and Rivers State will be able to move forward,” he added.

However, the Rivers APC chapter has publicly rejected the impeachment move, warning it could destabilise the state and harm the party’s image.
This comes after Fubara’s recent defection to the APC, which has complicated internal dynamics, with some APC governors reportedly backing his 2027 re-election bid against Wike’s influence.
