Nigeria’s Super Eagles have secured qualification for the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following an entertaining 3–2 triumph over Tunisia in their second Group C encounter at the Stade de Fès on Saturday.
The match, which initially appeared to be a routine outing for Nigeria, took a dramatic turn late on as Tunisia staged a spirited fightback that ultimately came too late.
First-half and second-half goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman gave the Super Eagles a commanding advantage before the North Africans struck twice in quick succession to set up a tense finale.
Nigeria started brightly, asserting control from the opening minutes with a high tempo and sustained possession.
Osimhen, alongside Akor Adams, caused persistent problems for the Tunisian defence. The Napoli forward came close to opening the scoring with two headed efforts that drifted just wide and later saw a well-taken goal chalked off for offside.
As the half progressed, Tunisia grew into the contest and began to press higher up the pitch. Despite their improved intent, clear chances were limited by a solid defensive display from Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi, who marshalled the backline effectively.
Their efforts ensured goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali had little to do as Nigeria went into the break firmly in control.
