Governor Biodun Oyebanji has pledged that the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State will be conducted with decency, transparency, and fairness, vowing that his administration will not tolerate violence or intimidation.
Speaking yesterday during the 2025 Ekiti State Government Carol Service held at the Obafemi Awolowo Civic and Convention Centre, the governor emphasised that power belongs to God and the will of the people must be respected.
“I made a pledge before you and God that as a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), we will run the election with all decency,” Oyebanji stated.

“My aspiration is not worth the blood of any Ekiti man.”
The governor used the festive occasion to share major infrastructure updates, most notably the mobilisation of contractors to the Ado–Aramoko–Itawure Road.
This development follows a direct intervention by President Bola Tinubu, whom the Governor thanked profusely for his “unwavering commitment” to the state.
Beyond the Ado–Aramoko axis, the Governor provided timelines for other critical corridors. The Ado–Ikere–Iju–Itaogbolu–Akure Road is expected to be completed and commissioned by the first quarter of 2026.
Oyebanji also highlighted that the state experienced significant economic progress in 2025, attributing it to federal support that freed up funds for local projects.
The governor described Tinubu as a “father indeed” to the people of Ekiti, noting that federal support has lightened the burden of leading nearly four million residents. He urged critics of the President to show “decency” by acknowledging the massive road works now underway.
Sharing the spiritual significance of the season, Oyebanji urged residents to remember the less privileged by spreading kindness and supporting those in need.
He also encouraged them to strengthen community bonds, using the holiday to foster fellowship and unity.

Among those present were Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who praised the Governor for his excellent relationship with the Presidency; Deputy Governor, Monisade Afuye; the governor’s wife, Olayemi Oyebanji; and Speaker of the House, Adeoye Aribasoye, along with various royal fathers and members of the State Executive Council.
In his homily, Assumpta Ajayi of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti reminded the congregation that the true essence of Christmas lies in selflessness and sharing with others.
