The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan has sworn in Rahmon Tella as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Oyo State.
This was disclosed in a statement posted on the commission’s Facebook page on Tuesday.

He emphasised the gravity of the occasion and the immense trust placed in the new commissioner.
“An occasion of an oath-taking is a solemn occasion. It is an occasion that calls to duty,” Amupitan stated.
He highlighted that Tella’s redeployment once again places him at the forefront of Nigeria’s democratic process in the state.
Amupitan articulated that the commission’s mission under his watch is a sacred “moral and legal duty” to the Nigerian people, transcending mere regulatory duty.
He issued a firm charge to the new REC: “I admonish you that the integrity of our election is not negotiable. You must uphold the highest standard of professionalism and integrity in every action you take. Any compromise on our values or our procedures shall not be tolerated.”
Amupitan further outlined a clear, ambitious roadmap for Tella, urging him to instil in every voter the “unshakable confidence that their choice truly counts” and to serve as a beacon of hope and democratic values.

In his response, Tella expressed gratitude for the Chairman’s guidance, acknowledging that the remarks were “very much being with value and experience.”
He pledged to align his work and efforts with the vision set forth by Amupitan.
The swearing was done ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.
The New Daily Prime gathered that Tella is Professor of Strategic Management and Public Policy, currently serving as the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences at Atiba University, Oyo.
He previously served as REC in both Oyo and Ekiti states, representing Osun.
His first term ended in September 2025, according to INEC records.
