Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has issued a stern warning to political actors allegedly plotting to manipulate the 2027 governorship election, declaring that anyone attempting to rig the polls “will be met with madness.”
In a video that went viral on social media on Monday, the governor cautioned those hoping to interfere with the electoral process, insisting that Oyo State residents were now more politically informed and would not allow themselves to be deceived or manipulated.
Makinde, who is currently serving his second and final term, reiterated that he has already begun preparing for a smooth transition of power. He reminded politicians that he would not be on the ballot in 2027 and that the decision of who becomes the next governor would rest entirely with the people.
“In a few months, I will be out of here. I have already started preparations for the transition,” he said.
“In 2027, other players will be there. If they think attacking Seyi Makinde and politicising this issue will make the people vote for them, maybe they should think again. Oyo State people are wiser.”
The governor also took aim at those considering the use of electoral malpractice, asking them to abandon such plans or face severe consequences.

“The next set of leaders will be the ultimate deciders. If you think you can rig the gubernatorial elections in Oyo State in 2027, think again. Were, la n fi wo were — we will use madness to cure madness,” he warned.
Makinde’s remarks come amid increasing political positioning ahead of the 2027 election cycle. Analysts say his comments reflect a growing concern over attempts by some power blocs to influence the outcome of the next governorship contest.
The governor had previously maintained that the choice of his successor would be determined solely by the will of the electorate, not by political godfathers or those who feel entitled to the seat.
As the political climate intensifies, Makinde’s declaration is expected to resonate across the state’s political landscape, sending a clear message to stakeholders that the integrity of the 2027 polls must be preserved.
