Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has stirred conversation on social media after advising nursing mothers against bathing their newborns every day, claiming that frequent baths could harm a baby’s delicate skin.
Makinwa, who recently welcomed her first child at age 40, shared the advice in a video posted on her social media page. According to her, daily baths are unnecessary because newborns are naturally clean.
“I really think bathing babies actually causes problems. Babies are not dirty. They have been inside the womb for nine months. Inside the womb is not dirty,” she said.

She explained that she does not bathe her baby daily, recommending that mothers wipe their infants instead of giving full baths every day.
“I don’t bathe my baby every day because it is not necessary. Babies are not on the floor; they are not dirty or sweaty. So, why are you excessively putting water on their skin? Their skin is fragile. You can wipe them instead of bathing them every day. This helped me, so I’m just putting it out there,” Makinwa added.
Makinwa’s remarks add to ongoing conversations about parenting practices in Nigeria, especially as more public figures openly share their experiences and opinions on childcare.
