Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has commissioned a new 233-unit housing scheme in the Abraham Adesanya area of Eti-Osa Local Government.
Speaking yesterday, the governor added that the commission has contributed to the state’s housing stock and reiterated his administration’s focus on Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to address the housing deficit.
The newly completed project, delivered through a partnership between the Lagos State Government and Urban Shelter Limited, comprises blocks of flats and terraces.

Sanwo-Olu stated that his administration’s housing development policy is centred on leveraging public and private investment to deliver affordable homes, particularly for low-income families.
He emphasised that for Lagos, as the “epicentre of Nigeria’s urbanisation” with a rapidly growing population, private-sector-led solutions are essential.
“The 233-unit scheme reflected his administration’s determination to reduce the housing deficit, uplift communities, and improve quality of life for residents,” the governor said.
Over the last six years, the administration has generated approximately 11,000 home units across the state, catering to low-, medium-, and high-income earners.
The partnership strategy involves the State providing land as equity, while private partners supply financing and technical expertise, all under strict supervision by technical teams.
To encourage more investments in low and middle-income areas, the government has provided regulatory flexibility, including a 40% rebate on all permits and other tax incentives to keep final prices affordable for consumers.
The governor addressed concerns regarding partners who fail to deliver on schedule.
He stressed that completing all ongoing housing schemes is a key strategy for increasing housing stock.
Sanwo-Olu announced that all projects contracted to private partners that have not been completed within the agreed timeframe or are not compliant with required quality standards “are undergoing review for revocation.”
The governor urged beneficiaries to take ownership and protect the new infrastructure in the neighbourhood.

Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, commended Urban Shelter Limited for its professionalism in executing the project, which was sealed in 2019 to maximise and use within the Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate.
He affirmed the administration’s commitment to expanding access to decent, safe, and inclusive housing across all income levels.
