The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued condemned what it described as a “brazen invasion” of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja by “expelled elements” backed by armed thugs and allegedly compromised security personnel.
According to the BoT, the incident occurred on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, when the group attempted to forcibly seize control of the Wadata Plaza headquarters.
The statement singled out Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike whom the BoT also declared expelled from the party for arriving at the scene with heavy security in apparent support of the invaders.
The violence reportedly escalated when newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN, accompanied by Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Senator Bala Mohammed, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and other senior party figures, were denied access to the complex on Tuesday.
Witnesses said tear gas was fired at the governors and party leaders while thugs unleashed attacks on staff and property within the secretariat.
In its press release signed by BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the board saluted the “courage and resilience” of party leaders and members who resisted the assault, describing the episode as a direct attack on internal party democracy.
The BoT unequivocally endorsed the outcome of the PDP’s Elective National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on 15–16 November 2025, insisting that the gathering complied fully with the party’s constitution, electoral guidelines, and the Electoral Act.
It declared Kabiru Tanimu Turaki’s leadership as the legitimate National Working Committee (NWC) and urged members to rally behind the new executive.
Denouncing media statements and actions by the “expelled elements” as mischievous, the board accused them of attempting to sow confusion and undermine the will of delegates from across the federation.
The statement further called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to launch an immediate investigation into the incident and ensure that perpetrators including those who allegedly mobilised state security apparatus for partisan purposes are brought to justice.
