Nigeria international Ademola Lookman has become the subject of a transfer tussle between Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, as tensions grow between the forward and his Atalanta manager, Ivan Jurić.
The 2024 CAF Player of the Year is reportedly open to leaving Atalanta in the January transfer window, with both clubs ready to pounce on the opportunity.
Tottenham view Lookman as a dynamic attacking addition capable of injecting pace and creativity into their frontline, while Atletico Madrid are eager to bolster their offensive options with his versatility and experience.
According to Fichajes, Lookman has hinted at a possible exit following a heated confrontation with his coach, a situation that has made relations within the team “unsustainable.” The report adds that Atalanta’s board is now willing to listen to offers for the player.
Atalanta could consider selling if a club meets their valuation, especially since Lookman’s current contract and form make a move both timely and realistic. The situation mirrors last summer’s transfer saga, when a proposed move to Inter Milan fell through over a €50 million price tag.
Both Tottenham and Atletico believe Lookman’s speed, direct style, and proven success across Europe’s top leagues make him an ideal fit for their attacking ambitions.
