President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to renowned businessman and philanthropist Chief Kessington Adebutu, popularly known as Baba Ijebu, on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
In a statement released by the State House on Friday, Tinubu described Adebutu as “a national icon and role model whose life reflects integrity, compassion, and enduring service to humanity.”
The President praised Adebutu’s remarkable journey from Iperu-Iremo in Ogun State to national prominence, commending his pioneering contributions to Nigeria’s modern lottery industry and his extensive philanthropic work.
“From a humble background in the serene town of Iperu-Iremo, where his life’s journey began, Chief Adebutu rose to national prominence as a businessman, philanthropist, and cultural icon who embodies the virtues of hard work, honour, and compassion,” Tinubu said.
Born on 24 October 1935, Adebutu founded Premier Lotto Limited, operators of the Baba Ijebu brand, which has grown into one of Nigeria’s largest gaming companies since its incorporation in 2001.
Beyond business, Adebutu’s charitable initiatives through the Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation have supported education, healthcare, and youth empowerment nationwide. His foundation provides scholarships, medical outreach programmes, and social welfare support to underserved communities.
Tinubu lauded Adebutu’s wide-ranging philanthropy, describing him as “a silent giver, touching lives without fanfare,” and highlighted his impact on employment creation, youth inspiration, and community development.
“Through his admirable personality, business acumen, resilience, and benevolent spirit, Chief Adebutu distinguished himself as one of Nigeria’s most outstanding entrepreneurs. His remarkable contributions to business, philanthropy, culture, and national development are footprints that will endure across generations,” the President said.
Adebutu, who holds several traditional titles including Odole Oodua of Ile-Ife, has also been celebrated for his contributions to Yoruba cultural preservation and his role in promoting national unity and good governance.
Tinubu concluded his message by expressing deep appreciation on behalf of the nation:
“On this special anniversary of his 90th birthday, I thank Chief Adebutu for bringing joy, opportunities, and livelihoods to countless families through his businesses and philanthropy. I wish him many years of good health and continued contributions to national progress.”
