The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the suspension of its National Vice Chairman (South-South), Dr Usani Usani, over alleged actions deemed capable of undermining party unity and progress.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was resolved during a meeting of the Cross River State Working Committee (SWC) of the party held on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, and made public in a statement on Monday by James Otudor, the State Publicity Secretary.
According to Otudor, the SWC received multiple petitions against Dr Usani, citing anti-party activities, insubordination to constituted authority, and conduct detrimental to the image and electoral interests of the party.
“In accordance with the party’s constitution and disciplinary procedures, Dr Usani’s suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of a formal investigation by the relevant party organs,” the statement read.
Appointment of deputy spokesperson also questioned
The committee also criticised the appointment of Ms Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, saying the Cross River leadership was not consulted prior to her emergence.
Otudor said Wayas had shown “little engagement” with the state chapter and called for her replacement with a more credible and active representative from Cross River State.
“We urge the National Leadership to review her appointment and replace her with a competent, credible, and media-savvy individual from Cross River State with a verifiable record of commitment to the ideals of the ADC,” the statement added.
Warning to coalition movement members
The Cross River ADC further raised concerns about members of the Coalition Movement who have publicly declared for the ADC but are yet to complete official membership registration.
The party warned it would not tolerate dual membership or allow its platform to be used by individuals pursuing multiple partisan interests.
“All coalition leaders and intending members are directed to complete their registration at their respective ward levels within seven days, ending Saturday, 25 October 2025,” the SWC declared.
Call for discipline, unity
Despite the internal tension, the state chapter reaffirmed its loyalty to the national leadership and reiterated its commitment to offering credible, people-focused leadership in Cross River and the broader South-South zone.
“We urge all members to remain calm, law-abiding, and steadfast as the party’s internal mechanisms for discipline, justice, and accountability take their full course,” Otudor concluded.
