Nigerian singer Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua, popularly known as Seyi Shay, has sparked fresh debate after openly claimed she was once a member of the controversial secret society, the Illuminati.
The “Yolo Yolo” crooner made the startling revelation during an appearance on the OffAir Podcast with Gbemi and Toolz, where she spoke candidly about different stages of her career.
“That’s when I was in the Illuminati. That’s when I joined the Illuminati. That’s when it was official. Do you understand? I was an Illuminati member,” Seyi Shay said.

Seyi Shay further clarified that while fans may remain unaware of such connections, those within the entertainment industry often recognise who may have been associated with the group.
“It’s not the fans, guys. It’s the people in the industry… the ones who work with me, work with her, work with that one,” she added, suggesting that insiders are usually more informed than the general public.
The Illuminati has long been shrouded in conspiracy theories, often described as a secret network of elites who allegedly wield influence across music, politics, and popular culture.
Many entertainers, from Beyoncé and Jay-Z to Nigerian stars, have been rumoured to be affiliated, though most dismiss the claims as myths.
The singer, who rose to fame with hits like “Irawo,” “Right Now,” and “Gimme Love,” has enjoyed a successful career spanning over a decade.
Beyond music, she has served as a judge on Nigerian Idol and carved a niche as one of Afrobeats’ most versatile female voices.
