Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has shed light on the fascinating origin of his famous stage name.
In a recent conversation with tennis legend Roger Federer, Burna Boy shared that the name came from his early love for comic books and superheroes.
As a child, he spent countless hours sketching characters like Spider-Man and Superman and eventually started creating his own original superheroes.
“I used to draw superheroes when I was younger. I used to do the comic drawing of them,” Burna Boy recalled. “That’s how I got the name Burna Boy, ’cause I wanted to be a character in the comic book.”
According to him, the name was never just about music at first, it was tied to the idea of becoming a heroic figure, one who stands out and fights for something meaningful.
Burna Boy’s revelation has struck a chord with fans who see the connection between his superhero-inspired name and his larger-than-life persona on stage.
