Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has penned a touching tribute to late filmmaker Kayode Peters on what would have been his 50th birthday.
Peters, a celebrated Nigerian film and stage director, passed away in Toronto, Canada, after a prolonged illness and was laid to rest on August 2, 2025.
His death was a major loss to Nollywood, where he was known for his creativity, mentorship, and contributions to the growth of stage and screen productions.
Taking to Instagram, Remi shared a heartfelt message alongside a photo of Peters, describing him as a “king” and a mentor whose influence continues to inspire.
“Happy heavenly 50th birthday, King KP. I will always be thankful for the moments we shared. Our love and prayers remain with your family. We’re here for Alexis and the kids,” Remi wrote, referring to Peters’ widow, Alexis, and their children.
Remi’s tribute went beyond nostalgia, as he opened up about his own life since Peters’ passing. The actor spoke about his ongoing projects, the challenges posed by the recurring Lekki floods, and his journey as a father. In a reflective tone, he promised to “share more with KP when we meet again,” underscoring how deeply Peters’ absence is felt.

The post quickly drew emotional reactions from fans and Nollywood colleagues. Moses Babatope, co-founder of FilmOne Entertainment, was among those who commended Remi for keeping Peters’ memory alive, praising the gesture as a fitting honour for a man who had given so much to the industry.
Kayode Peters, who died at 49, is remembered as a trailblazer who played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s theatre culture, with credits spanning stage plays, sitcoms, and film projects that launched the careers of many actors. His dedication to storytelling and mentorship has left what many describe as an “unerasable footprint” in Nollywood.
For Remi, the tribute served as both a personal reflection and a public reminder of Peters’ lasting influence. As fans continue to celebrate what would have been the filmmaker’s golden jubilee, his work and legacy remain a source of inspiration for a new generation of storytellers.
