The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has confirmed the promotion of Sunshine Queens, Castmog Ladies, Ahudiyannem Queens, and Imo Striker Queens to the top-flight Premiership after the conclusion of the 2025 NWFL Championship held in Umuahia and Abiriba, Abia State, from September 11 to 21.
Former Premiership side Sunshine Queens, owned by the Ondo State government, sealed an immediate return to the elite division following their relegation in the 2023–24 season. With a perfect record of three wins, the Akure-based team showed both resilience and pedigree, blending seasoned campaigners with promising talents eager to restore the club’s glory.
Joining them are three privately owned newcomers, including Castmog Ladies of Ogun State, Ahudiyannem Queens of Abia State, and Imo Striker Queens of Imo State, who all achieved historic first-time promotions.
Imo Striker Queens were the standout side of the tournament, sweeping all three of their matches to finish with nine points, while Ahudiyannem Queens topped their group with seven points. Castmog Ladies also impressed, amassing six points to secure their place in the Premiership.
The mix of a returning heavyweight and three debutants underscores the growing depth and competitiveness of women’s football in Nigeria, with the 2025–26 season set to usher in fresh rivalries and storylines.
NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, praised the promoted sides for their dedication and quality performances.
“We warmly congratulate the four teams on their deserved qualification. Their success reflects hard work, determination, and a commitment to excellence. The NWFL is proud of the football showcased at the Championship, and we look forward to welcoming new talents and fresh energy into the Premiership,” Shabi said in a statement on Monday.
The league body also lauded Dr. Robert Daniel Onyeani, Chairman of Ahudiyannem Queens and sponsor of the 2025 Championship, for his pivotal role in delivering a successful tournament.
“We owe a special debt of gratitude to Dr. Onyeani for his vision and generosity. His investment has not only lifted his club but also strengthened the entire women’s football ecosystem in Nigeria,” Shabi added.
Appreciation was further extended to the Abia State Football Association, the Abiriba community, referees, match officials, and fans for their contributions to the smooth running of the competition.
With the championship concluded, the NWFL reaffirmed its commitment to expanding opportunities for female players, raising competition standards, and ensuring the Premiership continues to stand as a beacon of excellence and inclusivity in African women’s football.
