Veteran Nigerian entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has shared a touching story of how former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi surprised him with a thoughtful early morning visit and a symbolic gift.
In a post on his X handle, the singer and socio-political commentator revealed that the visit happened unexpectedly in the early hours of the morning.
“At about 1 a.m., I got a call from Peter Obi telling me he would be coming to pay me a courtesy visit by 5 a.m.,” Charly Boy wrote.
Despite the unusual hour, the self-styled Area Fada said he made himself available to receive the former Anambra State governor. When Obi arrived, he was carrying a large ‘Ghana Must Go’ bag a sight that immediately sparked curiosity

The pair reportedly sat together for nearly two hours, discussing Nigeria, politics, family, and life before Obi handed him the bag, simply saying, “See small thing I bring for you.”
It was only after Obi left that Charly Boy finally checked the contents of the mysterious bag, and what he found left him laughing.
“Inside the bag was three bottles of roasted groundnuts, many alligator pepper, kolanuts, pawpaw, oranges, agara, mangos, bananas, etc., wey Obi pack by himself. I just don’t know when I fall for ground begin laugh,” he shared.

Charly Boy praised Obi for the gesture, describing it as an example of “native intelligence” and humility. For him, the gift was not just about the items in the bag but about the personal effort and sincerity behind it.
“This is why I respect this man,” Charly Boy added. “In a country where politicians flaunt wealth and power, Obi still shows that thoughtfulness and simplicity matter.”
Charly Boy has long been a vocal supporter of Peter Obi, aligning himself with the “Obidient” movement that powered Obi’s presidential campaign in 2023.
The entertainer was one of the most prominent celebrity figures championing Obi’s vision for a “New Nigeria” during the heated elections.
This recent revelation highlights the personal bond between the two men, extending beyond political collaboration to mutual respect and shared values.
Charly Boy’s anecdote has since gone viral, with many social media users praising Obi’s humility and ability to connect with people on a personal level despite his status as a national figure.
For Charly Boy, the surprise visit and the bag full of fruits serve as a reminder that leadership is about service, sincerity, and human connection, a message he believes Nigeria’s political class needs to embrace.
