The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that governors from the South-South and South-East geopolitical zones have abandoned their former political parties to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
Speaking through the party’s Deputy National Chairman, South, Chief Emma Eneukwu, at the APC’s 12th Expanded Stakeholders meeting held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Yilwatda attributed the governors’ defection to their belief in the president’s character and leadership style.
“I am very happy with the South-South geopolitical zone because all the governors that were in other political parties before have seen the quality of the character of the president and the person we are presenting and marketing to return as the President of the Federal Republic,” Yilwatda said.
“Because of what they saw in Mr President, they have all abandoned their own political parties and joined our great party, so that they can put hands together to move Nigeria forward, and that is very commendable.”
He further highlighted the South-East governors, saying their actions reflect a shared commitment to national progress.
“From the South-East, we use the South-South as an example because all the governors are very realistic, understanding, and they have moved on abandoning their parties just to make sure that their goal of making Nigeria a greater country is achieved,” he added.
Yilwatda emphasised that the APC remains open to new members and called for unity as the party rallies behind President Tinubu’s second term campaign.
The meeting in Yenagoa brought together key stakeholders as the APC strategises to consolidate support across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones ahead of the 2027 general elections.
