Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has reaffirmed his commitment to the ruling party, quashing speculation of a planned defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
His spokesperson, Edwin Olofu, dismissed the rumors as “fake news,” emphasizing Ganduje’s loyalty to the APC and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The clarification comes amid weeks of speculation following the former Kano state governor’s unexpected resignation as APC National Chairman on June 27, 2025, after nearly two years in office.
Citing health reasons, the former Kano State governor stepped down, surprising party members and political observers. Ganduje, who assumed the chairmanship on August 3, 2023, during an emergency National Executive Committee meeting, was the sixth APC chairman in just over a decade, succeeding figures like Chief Bisi Akande, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun (now with ADC), Adams Oshiomhole, Mai Mala Buni, and Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
Ganduje remains steadfast APC member
Olofu stressed that the former chair remains a steadfast APC member, debunking claims of a planned exit with his supporters. “Ganduje is a committed member of the APC, loyal to the President and his vision,” Olofu stated, urging the public to disregard rumors of a defection.
Addressing Ganduje’s recent visit to the new APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, Olofu clarified it was both a personal gesture and a condolence visit, not a political maneuver.
“It was a supportive meeting. He expressed his commitment to aiding his successor, reflecting the bond between them,” Olofu said.
He highlighted the ex-national chairman’s philosophy of fostering unity, contrasting it with leaders who harbor grudges against successors.
“He told Yilwatda he would lend support whenever needed, and the new chairman was delighted,” Olofu added.
