The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended a suspected human trafficker, identified as 47-year-old Alex Omosivie from Edo State, and rescued two young victims in Uyo, the state capital.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, disclosed that Omosivie was arrested around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at a hotel along Ring Road 3, following intelligence reports that he was operating a trafficking network.
According to John, preliminary findings revealed that Omosivie, a deportee from another African country, had been recruiting and transporting young women to various destinations on the continent for prostitution and related exploitation.

Investigations further showed that in July, he trafficked an 18-year-old, Odo Asuquo, to Libya, and on August 18, 2025, sent another girl, 16-year-old Glory Asuquo, to Burkina Faso. Both victims are believed to be from the same family.
John added that the suspect confessed during interrogation, admitting that he received N50,000 for each victim handed over to the trafficking syndicate.
She also noted that the parents of the trafficked girls have been contacted and invited to give their statements as investigations progress.
The police spokesperson assured that the rescued victims are in safe custody while efforts are ongoing to dismantle the wider network connected to Omosivie’s activities.
