The Ogun State Government has declared Wednesday a public holiday to mark this year’s Isese Day celebration.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, made the announcement in a statement last night.
He explained that 20 August was officially recognised as a public holiday in 2023, following a resolution of the Ogun State House of Assembly and the subsequent approval of Abiodun.
According to Akinmade, the day is dedicated to celebrating Yoruba religion, culture, and traditions.
He stressed that the recognition of Isese Day as a public holiday underscores the governor’s appreciation of the vital role Yoruba heritage and practices play in shaping the state’s identity and cultural landscape.

“Isese Day serves as an opportunity for adherents of the Yoruba religion to honour their ancestors, engage in traditional practices, and promote the values and teachings inherent in their spiritual beliefs.
“The celebration not only fosters a sense of community among practitioners but also invites the broader society to appreciate and respect the rich cultural tapestry that the Yoruba tradition contributes to Nigeria,” Akinmade said.
