Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-MaritMarius Borg Hoiby, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been charged with 32 offences, including four counts of rape, prosecutors have confirmed.
The 27-year-old, whose stepfather is Crown Prince Haakon, Norway’s future king, is expected to face trial early next year. If convicted of the most serious charges, he could face a prison sentence of up to ten years.
The indictment, made public on Monday, accuses Høiby of raping four women between 2018 and November 2024. Prosecutors allege that the assaults took place after consensual intercourse, while the women were asleep, and that he filmed the acts without their knowledge or consent.
He also faces charges of domestic abuse against a former partner, secretly recording women, harassment of police officers, and traffic violations.
“This case is very serious. Rape and violence in close relationships are very serious acts that can leave lasting traces and destroy lives,” said state attorney Sturla Henriksbø, who presented the indictment. He added that Hoiby’s connection to the royal family would not affect how the case is handled: “His status will not mean that he is treated more leniently or more harshly than others.”
In June, Hoiby had already been charged with 23 offences, including three counts of rape, before the state prosecutor expanded the indictment. At the time, his lawyer, Petar Sekulic, said his client “does not plead guilty to the essentials” and “strongly denies” the rape allegations.
When is Hoiby trial starting
The trial is expected to begin in January and last around six weeks.
Hoiby, who holds no royal title and is outside the line of succession, has not commented publicly on the case. The Norwegian royal court issued a brief statement, saying: “It is for the courts to consider this matter and reach a decision. We have no further comment.”
