The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has initiated a rapid response to a boat accident that occurred in Sokoto State yesterday, as a vessel carrying over 50 passengers to Goronyo Market capsized.
NEMA Director General, Zubaida Umar, activated the agency’s Sokoto Operations Office (SOO) response team immediately upon receiving reports of the tragedy.
According to a statement from the agency, rescue efforts are underway, with approximately 10 individuals having been rescued so far.
The search continues for more than 40 passengers who remain unaccounted for.

NEMA’s Sokoto Operations Office is working closely with local authorities and other emergency responders to intensify search and rescue operations.
