The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has implemented a reduction in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, across its retail outlets in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
A New Daily Prime correspondent confirmed on Thursday that the new pump price at several NNPCL mega stations, including those located at Danziyal Plaza, Central Area, Wuse Zone 4, and Wuse Zone 6, has been reduced from ₦945 to ₦890 per litre. This downward adjustment represents a ₦55 drop in price.
Speaking anonymously to New Daily Prime, a fuel attendant at one of the affected stations stated: “It was reduced to ₦890 per litre this afternoon, down from ₦945.”
This price cut follows similar adjustments by other petroleum marketers. Earlier on Thursday, MRS Empire Energy revised its pump prices to between ₦885 and ₦946 per litre, down from previous rates of ₦910 and ₦955 per litre respectively.

The current trend of fuel price reductions appears to be linked to the recent price adjustment by Dangote Refinery. The refinery reduced its ex-depot price for petrol by ₦30, bringing it down from ₦850 to ₦820 per litre. Additionally, shifts in global crude oil prices are believed to have contributed to the latest price reviews by marketers.
Though no official statement has yet been released by NNPCL regarding the price revision, the development signals a potentially broader national shift in fuel pricing, which could offer temporary relief to consumers already grappling with high living costs.
Stakeholders and economic analysts will be closely monitoring whether this trend continues in the coming days and if other major retailers follow suit across other parts of the country.
