Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has set in motion a fresh reform drive by establishing a 10-member panel to overhaul the Nigeria Police Force’s Scheme of Service and Conditions of Service.
According to the Force shared post on X (formerly known as Twitter), the committee was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, with a brief to modernise the Force’s administrative and operational systems in line with national public service regulations and the Police Act.
Part of its task will be to consult extensively with bodies such as the Police Service Commission, the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, before producing a revised framework within two weeks.

Assistant Inspector-General Nemi Iwo will lead the panel, which includes senior officers from different specialities within the Force as well as a delegate from the Police Service Commission.
In his address, Egbetokun said the move reflected his determination to raise professional standards, strengthen the capacity to meet modern security demands, and secure better welfare for officers.
He added that the review is one of several steps underway to improve both service conditions and retirement benefits, alongside measures to enhance accommodation and living standards for personnel.
