As the political landscape begins to shift in anticipation of the 2027 general elections, the coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu is reportedly gaining significant traction.
According to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s camp, increasing numbers of Nigerians are throwing their support behind the emerging alliance of opposition parties.
Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to Atiku, revealed in an interview with Vanguard on Sunday that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is becoming increasingly uneasy about the coalition’s growing influence and the alignment of key opposition figures.
“They’re scared because they know the coalition represents a formidable platform that could remove this administration,” Ibe asserted.
“Even if some leaders defect to their political party, the reality is that Nigerians are defecting to the coalition. It embodies their aspiration, a platform to end this failed government.”
Ibe expressed strong optimism that the coalition would present a serious challenge to the APC, stating that the momentum reflects widespread public disillusionment with the current administration.

He described the alliance as a “train” that Nigerians are ready to board once all formalities are concluded.
“Once everything about the coalition is finalised and the dotted lines are signed, Nigerians will eagerly board this train,” he added.
“That will mark their defection, far more overwhelming than what’s happening with the APC.”
The coalition, which remains in its formative stages, is expected to unite various opposition parties and figures ahead of the 2027 elections. Political analysts suggest that its success may hinge on the unity and coherence of its members, as well as its ability to present a credible alternative to the electorate.
As tensions rise and political manoeuvring intensifies, all eyes will be on how both the ruling party and the opposition coalition navigate the run-up to what promises to be a fiercely contested election.
