Before now, Niger state has continued to grapple with flood that claims lives and destroy properties in the state.
Despite the efforts of the state and federal governments, the state yearly face unending disaster.
Investigation by the New Daily Prime revealed that Niger stated was grossly affected last year by flood.
Some days ago, in the Mokwa Local Government Area of the state the number of corpses recovered so far from the flood that ravaged has risen to 151 with 3,018 persons displaced.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency, made this known on Saturday morning in a terse statement in which it said three communities were affected and two bridges washed away.
Director General of the agency, Abdullahi Baba-Arah, said that 503 households were affected while 265 homes were washed away. Two roads were also washed away, while 11 people were injured in the flooding disaster.
“The latest update from the Mokwa communities flood shows that 151 corpses have so far been recovered, while 11 persons were injured.”
In 2022, Aljazeera reported that The floods presently ravaging Niger may also find its way to our shores because it emanates from River Niger, which passes through Nigeria before funneling into the Atlantic. According to the Red Cross Society of Niger, as many as 868 houses were destroyed by flooding of the Niger River in Niamey, starting from 23 August. A total of 2,283 households (approximately 15,981 people) have been affected with many of them displaced and taking refuge in local schools or host families.
Also, in 2024, according to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency DG, 11 people lost their lives to the floods in five local government areas of Mokwa, Shiroro, Munya, Katcha and Rijau while 529 communities in 19 out of the 25 LGAs In the state were affected by the flooding.

Consequently, 41,192 people and 6865 households were affected while 34 communities have been displaced and are presently taking refuge in Internally Displaced Peoples camp created by the Niger State government.
Commiserating, Turkey expressed sympathy to Nigeria following the devastating floods that hit Mokwa and surrounding communities in Niger State.
In a statement, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed condolences to the Nigerian government and the families of those affected by the disaster.
It expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and extensive damage caused by the flooding in the Mokwa region.
